As the epicenter of AAAD Studies at JMU, we pursue knowledge about the worlds of African, African American, and African diasporic people. Through our conference, workshops, guest speakers, fellows, and faculty, we bring Africana Studies to vibrant life. We need your support to continue our necessary work.

Since 1999, the African Students’ Organization (ASO) has been dedicated to serving all of JMU by:

• Creating an environment that fosters their interest in Africa.
• Fostering cultural, intellectual, political, and economic awareness about the African continent and its connection to JMU
• Organizing various cultural events to build community and foster collaboration amongst African students and those interested in Africa
• Raising awareness of Africa at JMU and in the greater Harrisonburg area
• Giving back to the African continent through engagement and outreach
